PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image generating apparatus capable of rapidly performing image processing for viewpoint conversion without futility. SOLUTION: The image generating apparatus generates a viewpoint conversion image from a virtual viewpoint by using image information acquired by one or a plurality of image pickup means arranged in an object in which the image pickup means are arranged. The apparatus is provided with a temporary storage means for previously acquiring necessary picked-up images for each different virtual viewpoint to temporarily store the acquired images, a temporary storage selecting means for selecting a temporary storage means having a corresponding picked-up image in response to the switching of virtual viewpoint, and a viewpoint conversion image generating means for rapidly generating a viewpoint conversion image from a picked-up image of the rapidly selected temporary storage means.
