PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for generating and outputting high quality image data by performing correction of false color, e.g. purple fringe due to chromatic aberration, efficiently. SOLUTION: A false color degree p is calculated as a parameter indicative of possibility of false color for a pixel of interest of image data, an interpolation value corresponding to the pixel of interest is calculated based on the pixel value of an area in the vicinity of the pixel of interest, and then a corrected pixel value of the pixel of interest is calculated by altering the contribution of an original pixel value and the interpolation value depending on the false color degree p of the pixel of interest. The false color degree p of the pixel of interest is calculated by applying (a) a bright-area-gradation deterioration distance evaluation value Pdindicative of closeness to bright-area-gradation deterioration (high luminance pixel), (b) a chroma evaluation value Psindicative of magnitude of chroma, and (c) a hue evaluation value Pθindicative of closeness to a specific hue corresponding to false color.
