PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gear-change control unit for an automobile which can reduce transmission shock at the time of upshift, shorten a period of time of gear-change and be constituted without being complicated. SOLUTION: The gear-change control unit for an automobile includes an engine E, a transmission TM which changes the engagement state of gear trains G meshed in synchronization with rotation of a shift spindle 81 which rotatingly operates in accordance with the gear-change operation so as to change the power from the engine E, and a brake device B which decreases the number of revolutions of the engine E in synchronization with the gear-change operation. The brake device B is arranged to operate in synchronization with the rotation of the shift spindle 81 by being connected to the shift spindle 81 to move in cooperation therewith. The brake device is also arranged to brake a gear shaft 91 having a gear 91a which meshes with a primary driven gear 42 for transmitting the power from the engine E to the transmission TM.
