PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illumination device which makes accurate copy possible for a read object, and an image reader provided with the illumination device. SOLUTION: The illumination device 101 having the image reader 201, having read optical systems 6-8 for reading an original 3 is provided with a light guide 9 and a cylindrical lens array 15, provided in between the light guide and the original for making the light that exits and enters with respect to the light guide body. On the cylindrical lens array, a plurality of projecting parts, having a ridge line in a direction vertical to the longitudinal direction of the light guide, are juxtaposed in the longitudinal direction.
