PURPOSE: A power converter for charging a battery of an electric vehicle and a control method thereof are provided to charge the battery of the electric vehicle using power from a renewable energy source and a system power source. CONSTITUTION: A commercial power unit(10) is connected to a system power source. A renewable energy power unit(20) supplies power from a generation device using a renewable energy source. An AC/DC converter(200) converts AC power from the commercial power unit into DC power. A DC/DC converter(300) converts the DC power from the AC/DC converter and the renewable energy power source to the DC power for charging the battery. A switch unit(400) controls the conduction between the DC/DC converter and the battery. A filter(100) removes a harmonic of the AC power from the commercial power unit.
