1305352 Washers; joint-making packing TEXTRON Inc 1 Oct 1971 [2 Oct 1970] 45835/71 Headings F2B and F2H A composite sealing washer has a dome-shaped metal part 10, and a resilient part 11 (e.g. of neoprene) formed as two separate annular members 12, 13 each bonded to the metal part, one member 12 being positioned adjacent the central opening 20 and the second member 13 overlapping the member 12 and being positioned radially outwards from the opening but not extending beyond the outer periphery of the metal part. The member 13, as in Fig. 3 (not shown), may have an annular groove 18 in its surface opposite part 10 to enhance its flexibility and thus its sealing efficiency. The provision of a peripheral lip (22) on the metal part as in Fig. 5 (not shown) prevents the member 13 from deforming outwardly beyond the part 10 when the washer is tightened against an abutment surface by a fastener and the resilient members 12, 13 compressed inwardly to seal around the fastener. If the member 12 extends radially inwardly from the opening 20, then it may serve to retain the washer on a fastener.
