1339021 Door operating mechanism; power operated hinge DUNLOP HOLDINGS Ltd 14 Sept 1971 [15 Sept 1970] 43965/70 Headings E2F and E2M A plate 2 is pivoted in a V-shaped trough 1 about an axis parallel to the base of the trough and has a plurality of flexible pouches 5, 6 disposed between each side of the plate 2 and the corresponding side of the trough. Means are provided for selectively admitting fluid (e.g. air) to either set of pouches (6 as shown) and exhausting the other set 5 to thereby inflate the pouches 6 to a wedge shape and hence pivot the plate 2. The contacting surfaces 26, 27 of the plate 2 and pouches have a common axis of rotation and flexible strips 29, 30 may be provided between such surfaces. The pouches are clamped in the base of the trough and may have metal laminae 31 between adjacent pouches. Each pouch has a fluid supply pipe which, in the pouch, is surrounded by a wafer to prevent crushing and which may be connected to a respective manifold 53 for each set of pouches 5, 6 or to a common connector device Fig. 11 (not shown). A metal or rubber protective cover 72 may be provided. The pouches to be deflated may be connected to atmosphere or to a source of vacuum. An adjustable stop is provided for limiting movement of the plate 2. The device may be used to operate an omnibus door, Fig. 13 (not shown). The plate 2 is pivoted to the trough 1 by a shaft 17 engaging bores 18, 19 in the trough end 15 and plate 2 respectively. A pin 20 locks the shaft against rotation. A low friction bearing 23 and a thrust washer 24 are provided. |
