<p>1304690 Motion converting actuators J C RIDLEY 1 Dec 1970 [15 Dec 1969] 60946/69 Heading F1D A fluid pressure rotary actuator comprises a cylinder 10 having pistons 21, 22 connected together by chain links 27, 29 extending around an output shaft 13 such that the pistons can move apart or together to impart rotary motion to the shaft 13. The rod 24 of piston 22 extends through piston 21 and has its end connected to a leaf chain 29 which runs over an idling roller 31 and partially around a drum 15 keyed to shaft 13 so as to be fixed to an anchorage member 28 attached to drum 15. A further leaf chain 27 leads from the member 28 to an anchorage point 34 on piston 21. A partition 17 is situated between pistons 21, 22, the rod 24 being slidable therethrough. Chambers 19 and the chamber between piston 21 and partition 17 are open to atmospheric pressure. Thus, if fluid is led under pressure through a port 36 to the chamber between piston 22 and partition 17, the piston 22 will move to the right, the piston 21 to the left, and the shaft 13 will rotate anticlockwise. If fluid under pressure enters chamber 18 through a port 35, the pistons 21, 22 will return to their original position and the shaft 13 will be rotated clockwise. Further embodiments include an extra idling roller for leaf chain 27 Fig. 4 (not shown), and a drum mounted eccentrically on shaft 13 Fig. 5 (not shown).
