1326086 Extruding nylon MONTECATINI EDISON SpA 10 Sept 1970 [12 Sept 1969] 43337/70 Heading B5A A solid section nylon bar 10, screw extruded from a die 3 against the resistance of a braking device 14, is cooled initially by contact with the internal surface of a sizing die 8, which is cooled by internally circulated cooling water, and then by a water film from a tank 13 which seeps upstream from the sizing die outlet between the internal surface thereof and the contracting surface of the cooling bar. The die is heated by electrical resistance elements 6, 7 and provided with pressure and temperature detectors. The device 14 is supported from the die by a framework 9, 15, 16 and comprises a number of metal shoes which are urged inwardly into frictional contact with the bar 10 by hydraulic or pneumatic, gauge indicated, pressure admitted to the exterior of a rubber sleeve 18, and the tank 13 may also surround the device 14. A further water cooling tank 24 and an automatic cutter (not shown) are provided. The extruder is provided with a filter 5 prior to a constriction 4, and the die 3 connects to the sizing die 3 at a steel lined asbestos-cement insulating gasket 9. |
