Preferably a control mechanism is provided in the equipment so that the hammers are not powered until the tools encounter a predetermined resistance to their advance. Such a mechanism can involve resilient means urging the tools into contact with the face and can control latches normally preventing swing movement of the hammers, which, when operative, are free swinging between resilient stops 22, 25. Preferably the frame is secured by a pivot to a chassis and is held against rotation about the pivot by a shear pin extending between the frame and the chassis.
