Styrene or its mixts. (>50 % styrene) with other monomers were suspension-polymd. in aq. media contg. R'C(:O)NH(CH2)nNHC(:O)R2 (I; R1, R2 = alkyl and n=1-6) and afterwards mixed with gaseous aliphatic hydrocarbons at atm. pressure to give free-flowing granules. In an example 160 pts. H2O contg. Na tripolyphosphate 0.1, NaSO4 0.2, and NaNO2 0.003 pt, a small amt. of dispersant and 100 pts styrene contg. I(R1R2=stearyl and n=6) 0.2, Bz2O2 0.32, tert-butylperbenzoate 0.03, and stearic acid amide 0.1 pt were polymd. at 90 degrees with addn. of 0.3 pt PVA for 5 hr 50 min, kept for 20 min, kept for a further 5 hr at 100 degrees with 0.7 pt n-pentane and 9.3 pts n-butane, and foamed with steam at 100 degrees to give uniform granules. |
