Organosilanes prepn. from halo- or aminosilanes - by reaction with hydroxy or carboxy cpds. in pentane

Materials (I) contg. Si(OX)n or Si(OOCX)n gps. (where XO is derived from an alcohol or phenol; XCOO is derived from an organic acid or anhydride; n is not defined) are prepd. by dispersing a material (II) contg. Si(Y)n gps. (where Y is halogen or NH2) in pentane together with an alcohol, phenol, acid or anhydride and refluxing the soln. Starting materials (II) are pref. prepd. by reacting an unsatd. cpd. (pref. a polyunsatd. cpd., e.g. divinylbenzene) with a proton donor dispersed in pentane, one of the reactants (pref. the proton donor) contg. a Si(Y)n gp. The products (I) are useful as fixing agents in the prodn. of glass-reinforced plastics compsns. The use of pentane as solvent increases the yield of (I) and avoids the use of acid binders.
