摘要 1369456 Electrographic recording CLEVITE CORP 7 Dec 1971 56752/71 Heading G4H An electrographic recording system comprises a row of recording electrodes arranged in two unconnected groups 26-28 of interdigitated arrays 31-36 having corresponding electrodes 1-4 in each array of a group connected in series, and two rows of complementary electrodes 55- 61 arranged on either side of respective adjacent arrays, the arrangement being such that a selection of a particular electrode (e.g. 2 in array 33 of group 26) is effected by first setting suitches 89, 72 so as to apply a voltage to all electrodes 2 in group 26, then (by means of switches 40, and 77, 78) applying a pulse of opposite polarity to the four adjacent complementary electrodes 57, 58. The voltages applied to electrodes 2 are not sufficient to form a latent image on a recording medium, nor is the voltage applied to the electrodes 57, 58; however the voltage between electrode 2 of array 33 arid electrodes 57, 58 is sufficient, so that only one latent image is formed. In the embodiment of Fig. 2, the complementary and recording electrodes are arranged in overlapping relationship so that voltage fall-off at the end of, e.g. electrode 57 (which would affect electrodes 1, 2) is compensated by the voltage at the end of adjacent electrode 58 Figs. 3a, 3b, not shown): the electrodes 55-61 are arranged in pairs on either side of the electrodes 1-4 so as to compensate for voltage fall-off at the sides (Figs. 3c, 3d, not shown). In this embodiment the complementary and recording electrodes are arranged on the same side of the recording medium; they may however be arranged on opposite sides (Figs. 4, 4a, not shown). In the electrographic line printer of Fig. 5, three groups 93, 96, 99 contain respective arrays 181, 182, 183 &c. each composed of 105 recording electrodes 201-305 arranged in three 5 x 7 matrices; two rows of complementary electrodes 310-313 &c. are arranged as shown. Latent images of a line of characters are formed on a record medium in groups of three: for the first three characters, switching means 94 energizes those recording electrodes, selected to form the three characters (electrodes in arrays 184, 187 &c. also being energized) and switches 321 and 40 energize the two adjacent complementary electrode pairs 310, 311 as before. In the electrographic recorder of Fig. 6, information to be printed is taken from a C.R.T. (α- numeric) display. The input 123 is fed to a shift register 124, each "unit" of 25 bits being gated into a storage 128 from which it is directed in turn to one of two gated electrode drivers 135, 136 by means of a flip-flop 137. The output 141 or 142 of driver 135 or 136 is applied to respective ones of two groups of recording electrodes 120 flanked by complementary electrodes 143- 147 etc.; at the gating of each unit a timedelayed pulse is fed to a shift register 168 which provides an output on each of leads 175, 176 &c. in turn so as to energize complementary electrodes 143, 144 (then 144, 145 &c.) as before.
