The invention relates to a method for heating exhaust gas-conducting components in the exhaust gas tract of an internal combustion engine, in particular a self-igniting internal combustion engine. The aim of the invention is to simply and effectively allow a quick increase of the temperatures of exhaust gas components. This is achieved in that the temperature (T) of the exhaust gas and/or of an exhaust gas aftertreatment device arranged in the exhaust gas tract is measured at least in a partial load operating range with a low engine load and, if the measured temperature (T) lies below a defined threshold temperature (Ts) of preferably 250 °C, particularly preferably less than 200 °C, at least one normal run heating mode (2) is carried out, the intake valve closing (IVC) timing of at least one intake valve being switched to early or late depending on an ascertained average pressure (MEP) of the internal combustion engine relative to a standard intake valve closing (IVCs) timing in the full load operating range in an internal combustion engine at the operating temperature. |
