In gases contg. a reducing agent, e.g. H2 or CO and oxides of nitrogen (as in exhaust gases of internal combustion engines) the nitrogen oxides can be reduced to N2 when passed over a catalyst of mainly Ni and Cu oxides on an alpha-alumina support. The atomic ratio of the metals Cu (N2+Cu) is 0.05-0.5. The addn. of MnO2 so that the atomic ratio Mn/(Ni+Cu) is 0.1-0.7 stabilises the Ni and Cu oxides. The active components is 3-20 pref. 5-15 wt. % of the total catalyst.
|
