<p>The duct (1) is connected to the atmosphere by the inlet (3) and is connected to the intake manifold by the duct (2). The valve (4) is operated by the lever (5) and rod (6) connected to an electro-magnet (7) in the housing. The electro-magnet is connected to the ignition coil or to the contact breaker and is energised through a switch operated by the accelerator pedal. When the vehicle speed is reduced by releasing the accelerator pedal the valve (4) is opened and the normal throttle valve fully closed so that only pure air passes through the engine, reducing pollution under engine braking conditions.</p> |
