Spherical hammer coupled to a chain and handle as required for competitive athletics, comprises a hollow shell partially filled with a material denser than the bulk lead (Pb) to leave some space which can subsequently loaded to compensate for surface weight losses after use. The core is filled with uranium (alloy) specif. 92:8 U:Mo. The body is made from two hemispherical shells of steel welded together and incorporating an anchorage pillar for securing the hurling chain. The pillar pref. ends in a flange held captive between gaskets made of low friction material, pref. nylon or teflon (RTM). Centre of gravity is displaced radially outwards w.r.t. the chain anchorage, thus increasing the hammer momentum for a given of spin by the athlete, hence increasing flight.
|
