1432099 Aqueous anti-fouling compositions M & T INTERNATIONAL BV 30 April 1973 [30 April 1973] 18977/74 Heading C3P Aqueous anti-fouling coating compositions comprise a liquid carrier of which at least 50% by weight is water, 8 to 40% (based on the weight of the composition) of an emulsified, water-insoluble film-forming polymer and 5 to 50% (based on the weight of the composition) of a triorganotin compound of the formula or wherein each R, which is the same or different, represents a phenyl radical optionally having one or more inert substituents (i.e. substituents which do not adversely affect the stability or anti-fouling performance of the coating composition) Y represents a halogen atom, a nitrate or hydroxyl radical or the anionic radical of a C 1 -C 20 monocarboxylic acid, and Z represents an oxygen or sulphur atom or a sulphate radical. The film-forming polymer is preferably a polymer containing units of (meth)acrylic acid and/ or an ester thereof with a C 1 -C 12 alcohol. The organotin compound is preferably triphenyltin fluoride or triphenyltin hydroxide. The aqueous carrier may include up to 50% by weight of a water-miscible organic liquid, e.g. alcohols, amides or ketones having 3-8 carbon atoms and ethylene glycol. Other optional components include pigments, e.g. titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, iron oxide or silica, antimicrobicides, wetting agents and surface tension depressants, and polymeric compounds, e.g. hydroxyethyl cellulose and polyvinyl pyrrolidone). |
