1385187 Thixotropic slurry containing a 1,2- diazole derivative CIBA-GEIGY AG 2 Oct 1972 [2 Oct 1971] 45936/71 Heading C2C A process for preparing a slurry containing from 15% to 60% by weight of a compound having the formula wherein R1 is a hydrogen atom or a substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbon radical; R2 is an optionally substituted phenyl radical and R3 is a phenyl radical substituted in the para position by an alkyl oarboxylate group containing from 1 to 4 carbon atoms in the alkyl radical, a cyano group, an optionally alkyl-substituted carbonamide group, an alkylsulphonyl group or an optionally substituted sulphonamide group, or substituted in the meta position by fluorine, chlorine or bromine; or a compound having the formula wherein R1 is hydrogen, a (C 1 -C 5 ) alkyl radical or an optionally substituted phenyl radical; R2 is H, chlorine or an optionally substituted phenyl radical, R3 is H or an alkyl radical; or R1 and R2 together with the carbon atoms to which they are attached form a hydroaromatic ring; R4 is hydrogen and R5 is an optionally methyl- or chlorine-substituted phenyl group, or is a sulphonic acid group or an optionally substituted sulphonamide group, comprises mixing the wet filter-cake obtained during the preparation of the compound with such a quantity of dispersing agent that the resultant slurry is thixotropic and has a Brookfield viscosity at equilibrium of from 2000 to 10,000 centipoise at 6 revolutions per minute, 1000 to 3500 centipoise at 12 revs/min. and up to 2000 centipoise at 60 revs/min. Suitable dispersing agents include the sodium salt of the condensation product of naphthalene sulphonic acid and formaldehyde. A gelling agent, e.g. highly beneficiated magnesium silicate may be added to the slurry, as may an electrolyte such as NaCl, Na 2 SO 4 , Na 2 Co 3 and the corresponding potassium salts. The slurry is suitably subjected to a grinding treatment before use and possesses optical brightening properties which make it a useful addition to detergent compositions. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 1,287,457 and 1,254,745.
