Thermoplastic polyamide urethane urea resins are made by reacting together (A) a linear polyhydroxyl oligomer with terminal OH gps., free from ethylene terephthalate units, with a mol. wt. of 400-4000 and which is liquid at 80 degrees C; (B) a linear polyester oligomer with terminal OH gps. a mol. wt. of 500-4000 and a melting pt. of 50-220 degrees C in which 55-100 mol. % of the molecular chain consists of ethylene terephthalate- and ethylene naphthalate units and the ethylene terephthalate units make up 50-80 mol. % of the linear polyester oligomers, (C) a linear polyamide oligomer with an av. mol. wt. of 400-4000 and a m. pt. of 100-200 degrees C, in which at least 80% of the terminal gps consist of amino gps. and (D) an organic diisocyanate, (E) in amts. such that (i) 0.8 =(D)/(A)+(B)+(C) (mol ratio) 1, (ii) (B)+(C)/(A) (wt. ratio)=1.0-3.0; (iii) (C)/(B)+(C) (wt. ratio)=0.05-0.85 and (iv) (C)/(A)+(B)+(C)+(D) (wt. %)=3-55. The products are esp. useful as hot melt adhesives for fabrics, in the form of films, tapes, fibres, woven and non-woven fabrics, with good water- and dry cleaning resistance, with good resistance to blocking and soilings.
|
