The collector consists of a rectangular metal frame (6) with cross members (7) bearing slotted strips (4). The slots accommodate a number of parallel plates (1). The frame corners bear hooks to allow the frame to be lifted in and out of the water, and it can also be fitted with telescopic legs for height adjustment. Since the plates are of asbestos cement, the initial whitewashing leaves a coat of lime, giving an excellent base for the attachment of the young oysters. Since the plates are flat and rigid, the removal of the young bearing chalk layer is effected with the minimum loss. |
