Thio phosphonic acids of formula (I) (where R is 1-4C alkyl or phenylf R' is amino, 1-4C alkyl, alkoxy, -alkylamino, or -alkylmercapto; R" is H or Me and X is O or S) are insecticides and acaricides. (I) are prepd. by reacting 2-oxo-3-halo-3'-acetyl-tetrahydrofurans (I; where -S-P(=X) (R) (R') is replaced by halogen (Cl or Br) with (R)(R') P(=X)-SMe (Me is a monovalent metal, ammonium gp. or a tri-alkylammonium gp.).
