Combined alcohol- and sugar determination in drinks such as wine, must, etc., is carried out by (1) adding a measured amt. of the drink in diluted form to a distillation flask, (2) adding an alkaline Cu-II soln. contg. Komplexon (RTM) as complex-forming agent (3) heating the reaction mixt. very rapidly to a relatively high temp. (4) passing the distilled alcohol via an air cooled condenser into a measured amt. of chromate soln. in a receiving flask, (5) after the distillation, back titrating the unused chromate, and (6) cooling the reaction flask and determining the amount of sugar in the mixt. by thiosulphate titration, e.g. using iodide-iodate for end point determination. Process allows simple and rapid determination of alcohol and sugar content of drinks using a unitary appts. and the minimum number of reagents.
|
