1408317 Pile caps VULCAN IRON WORKS INC 12 Dec 1972 [19 Jan 1972] 57345/72 Heading E1H A cushioning and guiding device on a pile cap 18 comprises a ring 28 having a tapered guide surface 30, mounted in a recess 24 in the pile cap, the ring 28 being keyed to the cap 18 by one or more balls 34 located in an annular groove 26 in the peripheral wall 27 of the recess. The outer wall of the ring 28 has one or more longitudinal grooves 32 each intersecting a short circumferential groove 31. To assemble the device the or each ball is mounted in the groove 26 by epoxy resin, the ring is inserted in the recess with the or each groove 32 aligned with the or each ball 34, and then rotated until the or each ball 34 engages the end of the or each groove 31. Molten Babbitt's metal is then poured into groove 32 to fill the grooves 31 and 26. The device is then filled with cushioning material. |
