1503520 Ball-point pens MONTBLANOSIMPLO GmbH 1 April 1975 [1 April 1974] 13296/75 Heading B6P [Also in Division C7] The ball seat of a ball-point pen comprises an outer metal shell 2 and a two-layer liner comprising a first layer 3, of silver, nickel, chromium or copper, with a dispersed carbide having a hardness of more than 1000 kg./mm.<SP>2</SP> Vickers, and a second layer 4 which contacts the corundum or tungsten carbide ball 1 and has a hardness less than 200 kg./mm.<SP>2</SP> Vickers. Preferably the dispersed carbide is silicon carbide or boron carbide and the second layer is of soft silver. An intermediate layer between the first and second layers may have a hardness of from 80 to 250 kg./mm.<SP>2</SP> Vickers, and is preferably of gold or copper. The shell 2 may be of chromium, nickel, an alloy containing one or more of these or an aluminium/copper bronze with 2 to 3% of lead by weight. |
