The cylinder (3) is submerged beneath the water and contains an aspiration tube (6) with an easily changeable filter (7) of concertina sleeve form which slides axially onto the aspiration tube. The hollow open ended filter sleeve or cylinder has concertina type folds (7) in the radial sense, thus achieving a large filtration area. An aspiration tube closure cap (8) serves to locate the filters. The inner filter cylinder is of impermeable material and incorporates radial perforations. Similar perforations are provided in the aspiration tube wall, these perforations extending along helical paths.
