<p>The support sustains and relieves the neck and shoulder muscles, and is of cellular foam material, highly elastic and a bad conductor of heat. The support cushion can have hollows reproducing the outlines of the occiput and the nape of the neck, the depth from the occipital point to roughly the upper ridge of the external auditory passage being such that when the head is in a symmetrical position these ridges in both ears are inside the cushion. The external shape of the cushion can be as desired, provided the shoulders are supported on both sides. Provision can be made for modifying the occipital and neck outlines, using suitably-shaped stays or supports. Means for supplementary electric heating can also be included.</p> |
