1374156 Building tyres DEERING MILLIKEN RESEARCH CORP 29 March 1972 [12 April 1971] 14869/72 Heading B7C [Also in Division B8] Strips 13, 14 of rubberized parallel cord material are laid on a support drum 11 in a desired pattern to form a tyre breaker or bell by passing them through guides 18, 19 and between rollers 16, 17, and reciprocating the guides axially of the drum on rods 21, 22, respectively, while the drum is rotated. The stubs may be folded at each edge of the breaker by rotating the guides 18, 19 at the appropriate time before the strips pass between the rollers. An electric motor drives via a belt 24, a shaft 26 carrying a scroll cam 27 which effects restoration of the guides, and shaft 26 drives via suitable gearing 32, the spindle 31 on which the drum is mounted. The strips have a pressure sensitive adhesive affinity to the drum surface and are adhered to the surface by pressure applied by roller 16. |
