1499668 Finishing fabrics CLUTSOMPENN INTERNATIONAL Ltd 21 May 1975 [22 May 1974] 22838/74 Headings DIK and D1S A fabric containing at least one spandex yarn disposed so as to provide spaced-apart contacting points of spandex yarn in the fabric is treated by heating the fabric in a gaseous and/or vaporous medium at a temperature above 150‹C for a period of time sufficient to fuse together the spandex yarn at the contacting points without causing any significant deterioration of the spandex yarn. Preferably, the gaseous and/or vaporous medium is at a temperature of 180-250‹C and the period of heat treatment is 30-120 seconds. Preferably, the spandex yarn is fed under tension to a circular knitting machine where it is knitted in with another yarn, spandex yarns may, in addition, be laid in. The other yarn must not be such that it fuses at the temperature of treatment and may be cotton, polyester, nylon 6, 6 or, possibly, nylon 6. Other spandex yarns may be laid into the knitted structure. The heating medium may be hot air or steam and is preferably hot air containing a little steam to reduce any yellowing of the fabric. The fabric is run continuously through a heated zone and may be held under tension, e.g. on a stenter, while it is heated. The treatment may be performed before or after the fabric is dyed. |
