Multicellular materials which are lightweight, heat-resistant and flame-proof are produced by a process which comprises curing a liquid polymer in the presence of a reaction product of maleic anhydride with a polyimine of the general formula A(-N=C-G)n (I) ¦ R in which n represents a number at least equal to 2, G represents a monovalent organic radical containing less than 35 carbon atoms, R is as defined under G or represents a hydrogen atom, or G and R together form a divalent hydrocarbon radical, and A represents an organic radical of valency n containing 2 to 50 carbon atoms.
