1421657 Braids TEXTRON INC 11 Jan 1973 [20 Jan 1972] 1554/73 Heading D1K A braided low-friction tubular bearing fabric comprises a plurality of threads each comprising the same number of untwisted strands of the same bulk, at least one strand or thread being primarily of PTFE while the remainder and majority are primarily of high temperature nylon filaments. When the fabric is consolidated with a cured impregnant resin and used as a bearing PTFE is available for lubrication. There is preferably more than 50% by volume of nylon. The braid may consist of a repeating pattern of one primarily PTFE thread 10 to three primarily nylon threads 11, 12, 13, Fig. 1, e.g. made on a 120 carrier machine with 90 carriers threaded with primarily nylon thread and 30 with primarily PTFE. Otherwise each thread may consist of three primarily nylon strands and one primarily PTFE strand.
