1423832 Stays BLOXWICH LOCK & STAMPING CO LTD 10 April 1973 [11 April 1972] 16531/72 Heading E2F [Also in Division F2] A telescopic stay comprises a telescopic tubular body comprising an outer tube 1 and an inner tube 2, the tubular body incorporating two or more co-axial coiled compression springs 16, 17 one working radially within the other which act together throughout the range of extension of the strut to urge extension of the strut. An annular space 7 provided between the outer 1 and inner tube 2 is filled with a friction damping material 8, such as rubber, to damp relative axial movements of the tubes throughout the range of extension of the stay. An expanded inner end 3 of the inner tube 2 forms a stop for engagement by the junction 10 between a contracted portion of the outer tube and the junction 9 of the inner end 3 of the inner tube 2. The weaker inner spring 17 is wound of opposite hand to the outer stronger spring 16 to reduce interference between the coils of the springs as the stay is extended or contracted. In an alternative construction (Figures 3 and 4, not shown) three co-axial coiled compression springs (18) (19) (20) and an axial guide rod (21) are provided. |
