<p>The chopper is rigidly fixed to the bottom chassis of the straw pan. The chopper consists of a shaft with cutter blades on it, situated directly underneath the straw discharge shaft positioned at the back of the straw pan. The back of the straw pan has an opening towards the back and bottom, and is closed by a section of the shaft wall. The straw dropping from the straw walkers falls into the chopper opening, is chopped up by the shaft, and drops as chopped chaff into the field. The section of wall is pivot mounted on an axle running along its lower edge and along the bottom edge of the straw discharge opening, and is pivoted by mechanical hydraulic or pneumatic means.</p> |
