摘要 <p>A plant for purifying gases has an inlet duct leading the incoming gas to one axial surface of a regenerative heat exchanger and an outlet duct collecting the outgoing gas from another part of the same surface of the heat exchanger. The plant incorporates means of bringing about relative motion between the surface of the heat exchanger and one or both of the ducts with means of making a gas tight joint between the surfaces. Beyond the other axial surface of the heat exchanger are the means of purifying the gas. The heat exchanger is divided into sectors by radial partitions. The sectors open to a common chamber. The gas can pass from the entry duct through the heat exchanger into the common chamber and return through the heat exchanger to the outlet duct, the purification process being carried out during its passage. Purification may be by washing with a liq. or by combustion to decompose or oxidise toxic matls. The proportion of the matl of construction which has to be in steel and to have a precisely machined surface is much less than in existing plants, because it is necessary to make a gas tight joint, between surfaces which rotate relatively, on only one of the two axial surfaces of the heat exchanger, instead of on two as in existing plants. The remainder of the structure can be in matl resistant to corrosion and high temps.</p>
