1434887 Feeding roller type workpieces to a disc grinder BENDIX CORP 3 April 1974 [3 April 1973] 14819/74 Heading B3D The feeding of roller type workpieces through a double disc grinder having two opposing grinding discs 64 with a space between through which the roller workpieces are fed to machine their end faces is effected by feeding apparatus 70 which comprises a pair of guide bars 50, 52 which extend through the space between the grinding discs in a direction across the faces thereof, a rotatable feed roll 38, spaced from the grinding discs 64, a partially circular guide member 40 the circular surface of which is concentric with the axis of the roll 38 and is radially spaced from the peripheral surface of the roll to provide an arcuate passage along which the roller workpieces are fed by the feed roller into the channel between the guide bars 50, 52. The feed action of the roll 38 is provided by a resilient peripheral rim 74 on the roll which is deformed when in contact with the workpieces as they pass along the surface 44 of guide 40, the rotation of the roll 38 fractionally moving the workpieces to the guides between the guide bars. Workpiece stripping members 54, 56 are provided adjacent the guide bars to ensure their travel from the roll into the guide bars. Screw adjustment 96, 106 is provided to pivot the feed roll 38 parallel to its axis to adjust the peripheral gap between guide 40 and the feed roll to accommodate roller workpieces of different diameters screw and slide adjustment 94, 122, 118 is also provided to effect axial adjustment of the feed roll 38 to effect alignment relative to roller workpieces of different lengths. The guide bars, stripper plates and side plates &c. are also adjustable by screw and bolt means to adjust the various plates to accommodate workpieces of different sizes. |
