1415173 Encapsulating SHELL INTERNATIONALE MAATSCHAPPIJ BV 2 Feb 1972 [4 Feb 1972] 5328/72 Heading B2E Articles such as electrical articles are encapsulated with an insoluble, infusible coating by (a) dipping into a bath of liquid encapsulating material comprising at least one polyepoxide containing on average more than one epoxy group per molecule, a curing agent which does not rapidly cure the polyepoxide at ambient temperature and a thixotroping agent, and withdrawing the article from the bath, (b) dipping the encapsulated article before heating into a second bath of either 1) a liquid membrane-forming material comprising at least one polyepoxide containing on average more than one epoxy group per molecule and a curing agent capable of rapidly curing the polyepoxide at ambient temperature and a volatile solvent; or 2) a curing agent capable of rapidly curing the polyepoxide in the first mentioned bath at ambient temperature, and (c) heating the coated article so as to cure the encapsulating material to form an insoluble, infusible coating. Examples of suitble polyepoxy compounds, curing agents and thixotroping agents are given. The article may be heated, e.g. to 100-200‹C before it is dipped into the bath.
|
