1446660 Producing sponge iron MIDREX CORP 18 Dec 1974 [26 Dec 1973] 54697/74 Heading C7D In the production of sponge Fe from particulate iron oxide, the off-gases are combined with fresh reducing gas (from combustion of liquid or solid fuel) and recycled to the furnace. The off-gases are removed through line 17, cooled and scrubbed, e.g. with water, at 20, and fed through compressor 26 to a mixing valve 27 where it is combined with fresh reducing gas from 30. The combined stream has most of its CO 2 removed in amine absorber 40, and is fed to humidifier 50 where it picks up a little H 2 O before entering heater 60 (which is heated by off-gases and gas from gasifier 30). The heated gas enter a reactor 70 filled with heatresistant Ni or Cr-Ni alloy material where the water gas shift reaction (CO+H 2 O#CO 2 +H 2 ) occurs, the gas then entering the furnace which may be a shaft furnace (as shown), fluidized bed or rotary kiln. Prior to entry, the gas may be cooled by addition of gas from humidifier via line 55. Some of the gas from line 21 is bled into lines 25 and 33 and combusted with air from line 61 to heat gas passing through heater 60.
|
