1451741 Gas turbine power-plant BBC BROWN BOVERI & CO Ltd 20 Dec 1974 [22 Dec 1973] 55107/74 Headings F1G F1Q and FIT A gas turbine power-plant comprises a pressurized gas producer 7 forming producer gas from coal, a compressor 5 delivering air to the producer 7 and driven by a turbine 6 utilizing the unburnt producer gas as a working fluid, a dry-type dust collector 10 being situated upstream of, or in, the turbine, and a sulphur-removal device 12 being located downstream of the turbine, the producer gas being subsequently utilized as fuel, for a further prime mover, e.g. a gas turbine 14. As shown a first compressor 1 driven by turbine 14 delivers air to compressor 5 and to a combustion chamber 13 receiving the producer gas and delivering combustion products to turbine 14. Additionally, Fig. 2, (not shown), the chamber may constitute a steam generator (18) for an unspecified steam engine. The air-flow rate to the gas producer 7 is matched to the load on the plant by a valve 17 in a by-pass line 16 parallel to the turbine 6. The turbine 6 may provide additional useful power. Again, Fig. 3, (not shown), a dust collector is incorporated in the turbine, and takes the form of an annular gap (23) immediately upstream of a first row of rotor blades (22) and connected to a low-pressure region (24) to suck off the dust forced radially outward by passage through an inlet volute. An additional, or alternative, gap is situated immediately downstream of the blades (22). No inlet guide vanes are provided, and all surfaces exposed to the dust are made of hard metal, or coated with erosion-resistant material, e.g. a cobalt alloy with additions of tungsten, chromium and carbon. Again, if the inlet volute is omitted, inlet guide vanes are provided and a slot provided downstream of the first row of rotor blades.
