Ethane and/or ethylene are produced by (i) reacting H2 and CO in mole ratio 1-5:1 to >=50% (of CO) conversion at 150-450 degrees C and 1-75 atmos. press. and space velocities of 500-50,000 vol/vol/hr. STP in presence of a Fischer-Tropsch catalyst contg. Fe,Co,Ni or Ru; (ii) hydropyrolysing (part of) the obtd. stream of H2, CO, H2O, hydrocarbons and oxygenated hydrocarbons, together with make-up H2 to give a H2: (>=3C hydrocarbons + oxygenated hydrocarbons) mole ratio of >1:1, at 600-900 degrees C and >=5 atmos gauge press., and residence time 0.1-60 secs; and (iii) recovering 2C hydrocarbons from the hydropyrolysis zone effluent.
|
