1483843 Louvred windows KRIS OVERSEAS Ltd 21 Oct 1975 [9 June 1975] 24710/75 Heading F4V [Also in Division E2] An edge fitting for a louvred window comprises a frame member 1 for securement to an edge of a window opening, and pane holders 5 each adapted to receive an edge portion of a window pane, the holders 5 being rotatably mounted on the member 1 and coupled together for simultaneous adjustment by a rack 14 coacting with a pinion 10 carried by each pane holder 5, one of the pinions 10 bearing an operating handle 17. In the form shown, the handle 17 is integrally mounted with said one pinion 10 and has a catch 21 engageable with a projection 20 on a plate secured to member 1 to lock the holders 5 in their closed positions. The catch 21 is releasable from the projection 20 by flexing of the handle 17 about a resilient neck part 16, shoulders 24, 25 on the pinion 10 and handle 17 respectively engaging one another as catch 21 is disengaged to prevent flexing of part 16 beyond its elastic limit. The member 1 is of trough cross-section with a base 2 and with the free edges of side walls 3 intumed to form flanges 4. The rack 14 is slidable longitudinally in a channel defined by base 2, one wall 3 and one flange 4, and may be formed by a plurality of rack sections releasably connected together at their ende by snap-in connections 123. Each pane holder 5 has a boss 6 pivotally mounted in a hole 8 in the member 1 and is a nylon moulding of open channel cross-section in which the sides (22, Fig. 3) are inclined towards one another so as to be able to grip panes of different thicknesses. Sealing lips (23) extend along the longitudinal edges of the channel base to provide a weatherseal between the holder 5 and member 1 in the closed position of the holder. Each boss 6 has snap-in legs 9 which engage a rectangular hole 11 in the corresponding pinion 10. The member 1 is made of aluminium, and all other components of the fitting are nylon mouldings. The fitting is mountable in abutment with further fittings (Fig. 4) and the panes held thereby may extend vertically or horizontally.
