1464177 Bearings VANDERVELL PRODUCTS Ltd 3 April 1975 [9 April 1974 8 Nov 1974] 15662/74 and 48499/74 Heading F2A A bearing for an axle 12 comprises a housing 14 having at least one cylindrical liner 16 with a cylindrical bearing surface to receive the axle 12 from one end of the housing 14, sealing means 39 at said one end of the housing 14, oppositelyfacing annular thrust faces 21 on the housing 14 for engaging faces 22, 27, on the axle 12, the housing 14 including a hollow end cap 28 secured to the other end and providing a reservoir, a delivery passage 33, 35 for permitting flow of lubricant from the reservoir to a bottom region 36 of the bearing liner 16, and a return flow passage 18 leading from one axial end of the liner 16 to the reservoir. Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 (not shown) illustrate assemblies with both thrust faces 21 on the housing main part, while Figs. 3, 4 and 5 (not shown) illustrate assemblies where one thrust face, e.g. 62, is on the end cap 28, the last two having cooling fins 70, 71, 72. The liner 16 may be of aluminium alloy, e.g. aluminium-tin, or of steel-backed bearing material; it may have lubricant channels 37. The main part of the housing 14 may be of aluminium alloy or other material with good heat-conducting properties. The axis 16a, Fig. 4 (not shown) of the axle end 17 and liner may be vertically above the axis 14a of the outer surface of the housing 14 so that the external loading tends to prevent the housing 14 rotating in its seating in the adaptor, e.g. 11, Fig. 1, in which it is located. |
