Powder compsn. for treating hides - has tawing and opt. retanning agents absorbed on silica or aluminosilicate

Compsn. comprises 10-90(40-70) wt. pts. tanning agent(s) (I) absorbed on 90-10(60-30) wt.pts. inert support, pref. silica or Na aluminosilicate. The compsn. opt. also contains 10-60(25-45) wt.pts. retanning agent (II) per 90-40 (75-55) wt.pts. impregnated support. Used for improving flexibility, impermeability and strength of leather. Compsn. is easier to handle than prior art liqs. or pastes, which also gave poor results and necessitated the use of large amts. of water and long treatment times. Compsns. are readily water-dispersible. (I) is e.g. neat's-foot oil and (II) is e.g. oak tannin.
