1477028 Refrigeration V S OVCHINNIKOV E I GRIGOROV A L MAGDESIAN V I GORELIKOV A V BERMISHEV A S UTKIN V K FEDOTOV and V Y VOLKOV 23 Oct 1974 [25 Oct 1973] 45797/74 Heading F4H [Also in Division B8] A cryogenic vessel 1 for containing a refrigerant, e.g. liquid nitrogen, is formed with a neck 2 provided with a non-metallic stopper 3, a helical channel 4 being provided between the neck and the stopper to allow refrigerant vapour to escape from the vessel. As shown, the vessel 1 is of aluminium alloy and is surrounded by a vacuum-tight casing 5, the space between the vessel and the casing being filled with a vacuum-multilayer insulation 6, e.g. polyethylene terephthalate film aluminized on both sides and backed with glass cloth, and provided with an adsorption pump 9. The neck 2 is made of glass fibre impregnated with phenolformaldehyde resin or of glass cloth impregnated with a mixture of epoxy and phenolformaldehyde resins. The helical channel 4 may be formed as a helical groove in the surface of the stopper or in the surface of the neck, Fig. 2 (not shown). Containers 7, e.g. for biological materials, are supported in the vessel 1 by rods 10.
