Abstract A gaming system (10, 40, 100) is disclosed which comprises a symbol selector (22) arranged to select at least one player symbol (246, 248, 250, 252, 254, 256, 258, 260, 262, 264) at each level of a multilevel game from a set of symbols (14), an outcome generator (32) arranged to determine at each level of the multilevel game a successful or unsuccessful game level outcome based on a comparison of the at least one selected player symbol with at least one reference symbol (240, 242, 244) such that the player proceeds to a succeeding game level if the game outcome is successful and the player does not proceed to a succeeding game level if the game outcome is not successful. The gaming system also comprises a prize allocator (34) arranged to allocate a prize to a player based on the game level the player has successfully completed.
