Gas of increased calorific value is obtd. as by-prod. gas from thermal decompsn. of finely-divided solid fuel, suspended of fluidised by a carrier gas stream and heated to 500-850 degrees C by a carrier gas at >=850 degrees C made by low temp. gasification. The carrier gas, mixed with gaseous coking prods. from the solid fuel, is then separated from the solid pyrolysis prod. Used in plants for prodn. of sintered fuels, hot briquettes, etc. from the solid pyrolysis prods. Calorific value of the by-prod. gas is increased from 500-1500 K cal/Nm3 to around 6000 K cal/Nm3. Steam used for the low temp. gasification can be drawn from that formed by cooling the solid pyrolysis prod. (coke) with water. Prodn. of the by-prod. gas can be regulated to match demand, while maintaining a constant rate of coke prodn. |
