1481636 Isomerizing alkylaromatic hydrocarbons IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 24 March 1976 [10 April 1975] 14793/75 Addition to 1386801 Heading C5E Alkylaromatic hydrocarbons are isomerized in the presence of a silica/alumina catalyst of which the alumina content has been reduced by at least 1% of the total alumina originally present, the catalyst comprising before such alumina-reducing treatment 2-40 wt. per cent alumina and after treatment at least 1% and less than 6% by wt. alumina. Isomerization conditions are 200-600‹ C., 0À5-50 atmospheres pressure and the presence of 100-10,000 p.p.m. steam. Examples describe the isomerization of xylenes, which may be carried out in the presence of 1-20 wt. per cent of octahydroanthracene, tetralin, decalin, cyclohexane, cyclooctane, cyclohexylcyclohexane or the alkyl derivatives of these compounds. |
