1483341 Moving bed press filter D WICKHAM & CO Ltd 19 July 1974 [20 July 1973] 34628/73 Heading B1D [Also in Division F4] An apparatus for extracting moisture from slurries comprises an endless filter belt guided by rollers in a path which includes, in order, a slurry delivery zone, a gravity filtration zone, a zone in which pressure is applied, in use, to the slurry and a discharge zone. The pressure application zone is formed by a rotatable drum 16 urged against the belt and about a major portion of the periphery of which the belt is constrained to move as by rollers 13, 14. As shown the mounting of the drum 16 comprises a pair of piston and cylinder devices whereby the pressure of the drum on the belt may be varied. Alternatively springs of which the pressure may be varied may be provided. Doctor blades 33, 34, are provided for scraping material from the belt and drum 16. A bath 37, catches the moisture filtered from the slurry, the return run of the belt passing through the bath wherein it is back washed by jets 39. The dried slurry is carried off on a conveyor 35. The drum is imperforate but in a further embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown) the drum is formed from stainless steel mesh which is backwashed after contact with the drying slurry. Also the slurry is pressed against the belt prior to the roller pressing stage. A mixer 32 for mixing untreated sludge with a conditioner comprises a chamber 52 into which passes eccentrically a rotatable mixer shaft 55 having a substantially triangular cross-section within the chamber 52. |
