1482891 Forging BUREAU BBR Ltd 5 Feb 1976 [7 Feb 1975] 04534/76 Heading B3H [Also in Division E1] An upset head on a tensioning wire 4 comprises a supporting seating surface 6 at the transition between the upset head and wire, the head possessing a maximum diameter located within the third of the height of the head closest to the seating surface, the diameter of the head at its free end being at most equal to the wire diameter and the head possessing the shape of a substantially truncated cone at its end section. To form the head, the wire is held between clamping jaws 1, 2, which form the seating surface 6 under the head as it is upset, and the shape of the recess in the tool 3 centres the wire end at the start of the upsetting operation. The use of a die having a truncated conical recess results in less material being deformed than in forming a conventional head shown in phantom in the drawing. |
