High speed electrostatic printer has an immovable printing comb whose length corresponds to that of a line and under which moves a printing carrier transverse to the line direction. The comb prints the symbols of a line simultaneously. An electronic store is used to receive the electrical symbol values for the subsequent line in the time taken to produce the line space which lies before this forthcoming line. A second store receives electrical symbol values during the printing of a line. Both stores are operable alternately in the printing or input condition. The pause times between the lines can be controlled in relation to the data flow.
