<p>A process for sepg. materials magnetically, by passing a suspension of finely divided solid particles in a liq. vehicle through a tube placed in a magnetic field, incorporates orienting the direction of flow and of the magnetic field so that the deflecting force acting on a magnetisable particles consists of a magnetic force and a component of the force of gravity, while the deflecting force acting on a non-magnetic particle is only a component of the force of gravity. If M and S are the magnetic force and the force of gravity and X is the angle between the direction of flow and that of the force of gravity, the component of S opposing M is S. suix and can be modified by the factor suix while the deflecting force acting on a non-magnetic particle is only the component S.suix. An appts. for carrying out the process incorporates a tube which can be oriented is relation to the direction of gravity and which has a magnetising system extending along its length, a feed hopper and product receives connected flexibly to the tube, and a moving band, constituting one wall of the tube, for transferring deflected particles along the tube. The non-magnetic particles are deflected from the direction of flow, the magnetisable particles are deflected in an opposite direction and the weekly magnetisable particles are not deflected. There is less tendency for the magnetisable particles to adhere to the wall than in existing processes.</p> |
